A few weeks ago, we received an email from Comox Valley Corporate Connections regarding their annual Christmas fundraiser. Each year they host a fundraiser for a local charity and this year their charity of choice is Vancouver Island Compassion Dogs. I had never heard of this charity, so I did some research on it and I discovered a very special group. We thought we would share some information about the amazing work this charity is doing, for both humans and canines alike! A big thank you to CV Corporate Connections for brining it into the spotlight.
Vancouver Island Compassion Dogs Society (VICD) is a non-profit organization that matches rescue dogs to veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
VICD has created a comprehensive 52-week program that allows the veterans and their dogs to work and learn at their own pace, and is responsive to the individual needs of each veteran and their canine companion.
At the completion of each step clients will receive a badge that their dog will wear on their vest as a graduated system. This provides clients with a sense of accomplishment and confidence with their new found skills in dog training and canine companionship. They are proud to be under the guidance and mentorship of BC Guide Dogs Services. Their goal is to become a member of Assistance Dogs International. They are in the beginning stages of reaching this important goal.
Last CV Corporate Connections raised just over $10,000 for their charity, this year they are hoping to raise $15,000.
We’ve put together a basket of goodies for their silent auction that features Cumberland Brewing Company, Wayward Distillery and Beaufort Winery – a great way to feature our local producers while supporting an amazing cause.
