Celebrating Elizabeth and Shayne – August 5, 6 and 7
Very often our couples don’t live in the Comox Valley, and the organizing of the wedding falls largely to family and friends who reside here.
In the case of Elizabeth and Shayne, Elizabeth’s parents, Carole and Brian took on the role of wedding planners. From the moment Carole and Brian arrived for a tasting, I knew this was going to be a memorable event!
They very generously hosted an amazing three-day affair, beginning with a meet and greet barbecue at their home on Friday; the wedding reception at Two Eagles resort on Saturday; followed by a brunch at their home on Sunday.
Not often do we get to work with a family this closely, joking around, exchanging recipes, admiring Carole’s fabulous fashion sense and Brian’s comedic sensibilities. I was slicing and dicing in their kitchen while watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics with their family. Our dynamic team front-of-house team, Lee, Keisha and Trish got to know the guests so well over the weekend that each day we arrived, they were greeted by name and with hugs!
As we were packing up and saying our goodbyes on Sunday and leaving the house for the final time, we were walking away and I heard one of the guests say, “They were the caterers? I thought they were part of the family!” That was my favourite moment.
Congratulations to Elizabeth and Shayne and a huge thank you to Carole and Brian for all of your humour, thoughtfulness and grace. It was a sincere pleasure.
